Ernesto Gismondi
Ernesto Gismondi (1931–2020) was an Italian engineer, designer and entrepreneur, co-founder and long-time chairman of Artemide. Born in Sanremo and trained in aeronautical engineering at the Politecnico di Milano, he founded Artemide with Sergio Mazza in 1960 and shaped the brand into one of the most influential lighting manufacturers of the twentieth century.
Beyond his role as chairman, he designed several Artemide lamps including the Ilio and Nur, and championed the company's research-led design philosophy. The 3D Model Unity catalog includes high-precision NURBS 3D models of Gismondi lamps for Artemide, available for Rhinoceros 3D.
