Product Designer

George Nelson

George Nelson (1908–1986) was an American industrial designer, writer and architect, design director of the Herman Miller Furniture Company from 1947 to 1972. Trained as an architect at Yale, he shaped American mid-century modernism through editorial work at Architectural Forum, the design of the Coconut Chair and the Marshmallow Sofa, and a series of clocks produced from 1948 onwards.

The Nelson clock series — including the Ball Clock, Sunburst, Asterisk, Cone, Diamond, Tripod and Chronopak — became defining objects of American post-war design and is now produced by Vitra. The 3D Model Unity catalog includes high-precision NURBS 3D models of George Nelson clocks for Vitra, available for Rhinoceros 3D.
